内容記述タイプ Abstract
内容記述 In the latter half of the 19th century, the Empire of Japan government urged changing the lunisolar calendar into the solar calendar of Western people. Though the Edo period haiku used a lunar calendar of four seasons, the haiku of the Meiji era began to use the new calendar of five divisions or four seasons and a new year to correct the deviation from the actual season. While the acceptance of things Western for modernization significantly changed things, other things inherited from pre-modern times continue to exist.
The seven classifications of seasonal words in Saijiki, the almanac of those words are time, weather, astronomical phenomena, geography, life, events, animals, and plants. In modern Japan, new things were introduced, which led to new seasonal words, and the number of them increased. They belonged to life and events. While things changed with the acceptance of the West for modernization, other things retained the legacy of the preceding modern era in the historical changes. Even though these things did not change, people could change how they watched them. Such changes could be seen mainly in the seasonal words classified as weather and astronomy. In the Meiji Era, the government removed the restrictions on the movement of people and goods in the Edo Era. As a result, plants and animals were imported and established as new seasonal terms. These seasonal words belong to animals and plants.
Seasonal expressions have changed over time, influenced by the changes at the national level. Such historical changes still affect people's lives. Modern haiku emphasizes the author's sense of reality. Personal lifestyles and everyday sensibilities have a significant influence on both the creation and the appreciation of the work. The modernization of seasonal words is a characteristic of modern haiku in response to the modernization movement that has drastically changed the lives of Japanese people.
